The following article was taken from the West Briton dated 29 September 1854

SUDDEN DEATH - On Monday afternoon, as William RIPPER, of Helston, was at work on the surface at Wheal Vor Mine, he suddenly fell down and expired; deceased had previously complained of a pain in his stomach, but was able to work just as usual. Ripper was a well-known character at Helston, he having for many years been the leader of the flora day "hale-an-tow" at that place. An inquest was held on Tuesday, before Mr. T. H. ROSKRUGE, borough coroner, and a verdict of "died by the visitation of God" was returned.
