In an effort to find out where my Edmund Clemo fits in, I have been looking
at the old records on line to try and piece together the various family groups.

In the 1641 Protestation Return there are 22 Clemows mentioned based mainly
around Crantock and surrounding Parishes.
In the 1664 Hearth Tax return there are 7 Clemos and these are mainly in the
Crantock and surrounding Parishes
Edmund Clemo married Mary Rogers on 25 MAY 1766 in St Stephen in
Brannel (The following was taken from the opc website for St Stephen in Brannel "The first mention of a school in the parish is in the Churchwardens’ Accounts for 1765-66, when Mr. Clemo, the school master, was paid the annual salary of £3.0.0") (Edmund died around 1803. No record of burial found. Mary was granted administration on 9 July 1803) (Mary Clemmo was buried on 30 DEC 1824 in St Stephen in Brannel aged 82) |

Charles Clemo married Elizabeth
Henrietta Trevaskis Hayes on 1 MAY 1895 in St Erth (In 1911 the family was living in Devonport) (It is thought that Hettie received two dead letters in the same week. Her son was lost when the Prize went down in 1917. Her husband was on HMS Lion at the battle of Jutland but survived a direct hit) (Hettie received a dead letter in error. When her son R J (Jim) was injured by shrapnel within a few days she was sectioned and sent to the County Lunatic Asylum at Bodmin where she committed suicide) (Elizabeth was buried on 22 OCT 1917 in St Erth aged 46) (Charles died on 16 JUL 1934 aged 64) |

Charles Reginald Clemo, Shipwright 2nd Class, M/16543, Royal Navy, son of Charles and Elizabeth H. T. Clemo, of Duke Street Inn, Duke Street, Devonport, was killed when HMS Prize was sunk by U-48 in the Atlantic on 14 August 1917. He was 22 years old, and is commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial. |
